European Craft Days in Agost

European Craft Days in Agost

On 3 April we were in Agost, enjoying the varied activities that this municipality of l'Alacantí had prepared on the occasion of the European Days of Crafts. We accepted the kind invitation made by the numerous/as friends/as that we have there and there that we went, to spend a sunny Sunday morning, full of fun, entertainment and culture so that all/as, children/as and adults, had a good time.

In the Cantereria Museum groups of plazadores/ as esparto, men and women -especially women- from different towns of the province met and demonstrated their knowledge and know-how in relation to an ancestral craft, so dear in our lands. Master potter Emili Boix spoke to us with his clay hands, creating patient clay objects from the tireless twists of his lathe. The visit to the museum, recently renovated, was an experience. Touring the facilities of the old ceramics factory converted into a museum made us go back to the past, traveling back in time to a time not so far away in which life ran differently. Other smells, other flavors and other objects filled the houses of our grandparents/ as and all of this tells us the museum of Agost that, like ours, preserves its memory.

In the Plaza de les Peones -at the entrance of the museum-, the vintage fair gathered a large public, who toured the stalls and participated in the activities offered by the City Council; it was photographed in an old scenery, listened to music and tasted products at popular prices. The urban routes -pottery and bells- showed hidden corners of the population and the magnificent landscapes that surround it. Along with rain-fed crops, the mountain and the Maigmó Greenway, the Mediterranean was in the background. We were fortunate to make the second of them, together with an excellent guide who led us through a municipality with so much to say and to teach, as the communion chapel of the parish church of Saint Peter, an authentic jewel of the Baroque.

In short, we enjoyed a day of fun and learning in a nearby paradise -and it is not a cliché-, an endearing place to which we will return to tour its streets, taste its gastronomy or collaborate in any of its many projects. ¡ Congratulations!
